Mutual Exchange
Mutual Exchange is an accommodation swap between tenants and relies on each party moving permanently into their exchange partner's property. A tenant cannot exchange into an empty property.
The Association considers requests for mutual exchanges between our tenants or the tenants of another housing association or local authority. Unfortunately, mutual exchanges with tenants in leased or private rented accommodation are not allowed. All tenants must apply for, and obtain permission from their respective landlord(s) before going ahead with an exchange.
Permission will normally be given, unless :-
- There are any arrears outstanding on the account of either party
- The accommodation is too large or small for the incoming household’s needs
- The property is specially adapted or used for a person with special needs and a member of the proposed household meets these requirements
- Legal proceedings are still current on either party.
We will inform you of our decision within 42 days of receipt of your request. If there have been any other breaches of the conditions of either tenancy, this may affect your right to exchange. For further information about Mutual Exchanges, please contact Customer Services on 0303 303 0003.
More information can be found in our Tenants Handbook.
