Your Green Space
This year we are seeking applications for the Environmental Improvement Budget that will save energy, increase recycling and create greener spaces for all.
Do you have any ideas big or small that will make a difference to where you live? Do you and your neighbours wish to make improvements to your environment by saving energy, resources, reducing your carbon footprint and creating greener areas for all? Then please speak to your Neighbourhood Officer, Property Surveyor or contact the Resident Participation Team for more information.
What is saving energy and resources?
- saving energy could involve fitting low energy light bulbs, sensor lights or radiator heat reflectors in communal areas.
- Encouraging your community to become more energy aware through holding energy advice sessions and promoting energy saving initiatives.
- Make your own free, clean and green energy through fitting small wind turbines or solar panels
- Fitting water butts to save water.
What is a greener space
• Encourages the flora and fauna creating natural areas
• Create allotments and community garden areas
What we have done so far
We have already received and implemented a number of applications since starting the scheme including:
- Installation of waterbutts and solar panels at Peto Court, Norwich
- Garden makeovers at The Eagles, Great Yarmouth and Joseph Clover Court, Aylsham
- Raised beds and summer seating area at Oulton Court, Lowestoft
- Raised beds at St Katherines Court, Kings Lynn and Woodcote, Hethersett
Mrs Peart at Peto Court said “we are very pleased with the fitting of the waterbutts and how useful they will be to maintain our gardens and we would like to thank the Association for accepting our application. All of the tenants are pleased with the work that has been carried out, with one resident on a pre paid meter stating he ‘has hardly had to top up his electric since having the solar panels installed”.

In addition to our own Environment Improvement Budget we have also been able to make significant environmental improvements through obtaining grant funding from the ‘Low Carbon Buildings Programme’, which has allowed us to replace outdated inefficient heating systems at Sotherton Corner and Herringswell Road in Suffolk with the latest solar panel and air source heat pumps at a minimal cost to the Association.

Louise Archer, Deputy Director (Programme Delivery), said “We are thrilled to be able to deliver renewable technologies to our tenants at such a minimal cost to the Association through the use of grant funding. We have made a really positive impact to tenants lives, while also reducing our own carbon footprint and we hope to carry out similar works at other schemes in the future.”
